Fancy getting out and exploring some of the best spots in Suffolk?
In sleepy Suffolk, we are lucky to have a stunning coastline and a peaceful picturesque countryside, which offers some truly special routes that we are delighted to share with visitors and locals alike.
These are a few of our favourite walks, perfect for slowing down, clearing your head and enjoying everything this corner of Suffolk has to offer.
Kessingland to Lowestoft (5 miles)
This is a nice gentle stroll along the coast via the beach. You want to start your walk at Kessingland beach, accessible via our beach steps, and head left. A lovely walk along the beach, ideal for slowing down and taking in the views. First you will head into Pakefield, which hosts a variety of pubs, perfect for a little tipple and a spot of lunch on the way. Please keep a check of the tide times though, as there is a point where you will be blocked if the tide is in. Carry along the path and you will head into lovely Lowestoft. Your typical seaside town, with sandy beaches, amusements and tasty fish and chips. If you fancy heading out an extra mile, carry on through Lowestoft and you will come across Ness point, which is the UK’s most easterly point.
Southwold to Walberswick (3 miles)
Start the walk on the sea front in Southwold and then head south along Havenbeach Marshes to the river. Here you turn right to follow a path along Southwold Harbour to Woodsend Marshes. A footbridge then takes you to the other side of the river where you turn south to follow the path to the coast at Walberswick. The route passes along the beach before turning into the village centre where you can enjoy refreshments at one of the cafés. While you are there, why not take a trip on the Walberswick rowboat ferry, which takes you down the River Blyth.
Southwold to Covehithe circular (10 miles)
Pack a picnic as this is a long walk, but with beaches this beautiful, why not make a day of it? This route is full of contrasts, starting with the candy-coloured beach huts of Southwold with the bleak but beautiful Covehithe. The walk begins in Southwold and follows the coast northwards, over Easton Broad towards Covehithe. Once you’ve seen the incredible church ruins at Covehithe, you head inland to circle back to the start taking in the beautiful countryside in this part of Suffolk. Make sure to check the tides before you set off as the beach part of the walk is only accessible at certain times.
Walking reminds us to slow down, take a breath and let the horizon do the talking. Sometimes, following the edge of the land is exactly what we need.
