The beautiful market town of Beccles is situated on the River Waveney and is only a 20-minute drive from Kessingland. There is so much to discover in Beccles, from the rich historical buildings to the great variety of weekly and monthly markets.

The town of Beccles is one of the southern gateways to the broads, which makes it a must to get out and explore. Why not hire a day boat and explore the broads first hand or hop on the big dog ferry, sit back, relax and take in the sights. If traveling along the broads, why not moor up in Beccles Quay for the night and take your time  exploring.

Beccles is well known for being a great market town. Every Friday in New Market, you will find a wide range of market stalls, selling everything from fruit and vegetables to homeware and crafts. Also, on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of the month, there is a farmers market selling all local and fresh produce. As the market is held undercover, it is open all year round.

Why not take a stroll around the town and visit the wide selection of quaint and independent shops that line the streets. There is also a great selection of pubs, cafés and restaurants to choose from. A lot of these are also dog-friendly, so your furry four-legged friend is not left out.

If you’re a history buff, then visiting the Beccles Bell Tower and St Michael’s church is a must. In summer, you can climb the stairs of the Bell Tower, where you can get spectacular views across the River Waveney. St Michael’s church is well known for hosting the wedding of Catherine Suckling and Reverend Edmund Nelson, the parents of Lord Horatio Nelson.
